How urban farming transformed a Dallas community
In Dallas—one of the wealthiest cities in the world—the community of Bonton faces severe urban poverty, with 48% of residents experiencing high rates of incarceration, unemployment, disease, and limited transportation, compounded by its status as a food desert where accessing fresh groceries requires a three-hour round-trip bus ride.
Daron Babcock moved into the neighborhood to better understand residents’ needs and went on to establish Bonton Farms—now one of the largest urban farms in the U.S.—which is helping drive transformation by providing jobs, fresh food, and renewed hope within the community.

Since 2007, Back on My Feet (BoMF) has been combatting homelessness through the power of running, community support, essential employment, and housing resources.
As part of its program, Back on My Feet members who are experiencing homelessness commit to waking up at 5 a.m. three times a week to run alongside their fellow members and BoMF staff.
With a community running alongside them and cheering them on through life's hurdles, participants are able to build the strength and confidence to transform their lives.
Is this the unexpected key to tackling homelessness?
